It is also the beginning of the Treta Yuga on this day.
This isn’t the end of the significance list.
According to legend, on Akshaya Tritiya, the mighty and celestial river Ganga descended on the earth at King Bhagiratha’s request to assist his ancestors in attaining Moksha (salvation).
Shri Krishna is also associated with this auspicious day. Sudama, Shri Krishna’s poor Brahmin friend, arrived at his palace with a fistful of flattened rice on this day. Shri Krishna welcomed his humble offers with open arms and lavished wealth on his friend. As a result, it was on this day that Sudama’s fortunes changed and he became rich.
Shri Krishna rescued Draupadi and the Pandavas from Sage Durvasa’s wrath by transforming their empty food pot into an Akshaya Patra, according to another legend (a vessel with an endless supply of food).

As a result, Akshaya Tritiya is extremely important. On this day, people buy gold or other precious metals or start a new business in order to continue rising and living a comfortable life. People pursue spiritual enlightenment in addition to material comforts. To seek Almighty’s blessings, some people perform Japa, Yagya, or Havan and give away food or necessities in charity.
Some Akshay Tritiya rituals include lighting a cow ghee lamp in front of Maa Lakshmi and chanting the Kanakdhara Stotra or Sri Suktam if you are in financial difficulty.
- In front of Lord Vishnu, chant Vishnu sahastranaam for overall happiness.
- Repeat the Ram Raksha Stotra or the Mahamritunjaye mantra if you’re sick.
